My Grondad
I allus wer fond o'mi Grondad, becose 'e wer fond o'me.
'E wer a rare owd chap an' as kindly, as ever a body could be.
Whenever I geet into lumber, and ruined mi cloas at play
An' id looked like geddin' a thrashin', mi Grondad he allus would say
A kind word or two to mi feyther an' th'end on id would be "Well"
"Lads will be lads an' tha knows id, tha wer' once a young monkey thysel."
I allus wer fond o'mi Grondad, becose 'e wer fond o'me.
'E wer a rare owd chap an' as kindly, as ever a body could be.
'E kept toathri hens for a hobby, an' sometimes 'e'd chickens an'o,
An' 'e spent every bit of his spare time, in feeding an' watchin' 'em grow.
An' sometimes us lads we would chase 'em, which med 'im as mad as could be.
'E'd sweer wod 'e'd do if 'e copt 'im, bud 'e never copt th'odd un, nod 'e.
I allus wer fond o'mi Grondad, becose 'e wer fond o'me.
'E wer a rare owd chap an' as kindly, as ever a body could be.
'E looked weel i' clogs did mi Grondad, as 'e swung 'em so steady an' slow.
An' 'e walked as straight up as a Maypow, for 'ed once bin a sowjey, y'know
But, ay you should see 'im at Sunda, blue cooat, knee breeches an'shoon.
'E looked like some owd-fashioned angel, just come down to see summat new.
I allus wer fond o'mi Grondad, becose 'e wer fond o'me.
'E wer a rare owd chap an' as kindly, as ever a body could be.
God bless 'is owd face for a loved 'im an I hope to be wi' 'im soon
I'd willingly follow where he's gone, for a know a shall find 'im a boon.
So as allus think weel o' mi Grondad, becose 'e thowt weel o' me.
'E wer a rare owd chap an' as kindly, as ever a body could be.
